I was seven, my brother was 6. They put us in our red Radio Flyer wagon, told us to sit still. They filled the wagon with confetti all around our little legs. They pulled the wagon up one side and down the other side of Altgeld Street. They told us to throw the confetti by the handful into the air as they pulled us up one side and down the other side of Altgeld Street. What joy; we thought it was someone's birthday. Today, a teary Friday, seventy years later and now just a few hours south of Normandy, I finally, finally understand why.
Forgive, don't forget.
Ron
